Within Labrador-Grenfell Health, a Registered Nurse works in the role of a Regional Nurse in a geographically isolated facility. They assume a high level of autonomy, accountability, responsibility, and exercises considerable judgment and initiative in performing client care. Depending on the size of the clinic, the regional nurse may work alone or with a small team of other nurses and support staff. The Regional Nurse practices in geographical areas with limited access or no access to physician services, is authorized to implement the identified interventions, including diagnosis, request of diagnostic tests and treatments of clients, as per each health condition included in the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) Clinical Practice Guidelines to support clinical decision making. The FNIHB Clinical Practice Guidelines reflect evidence based best practice for both the adult and pediatric population.
